Greetings from the Land of the Pharaohs! Benjamin E. Wood makes his fourth trip to Egypt with Serenity Travels. For the next 6 weeks he will be traveling throughout Egypt, the Sinai Peninsula and Jordan. During which time he will have many wonderful opportunities to work with some of the magnificent masters and healers who have joined Jill Marie and himself on this adventure of a lifetime. This region of the Earth, particularly the Middle East needs our prayers of love and understanding more than ever. Benjamin hopes that through his work and the work of his fellow pilgrims, that peace may emerge fully out of the hopes and dreams of the blessed inhabitants of these beautiful and treasured lands. This November 2004, Benjamin E. Wood was re-elected to the Office of Worshipful Master of his Lodge, Fidelity Lodge no. 80, AF&AM of Glenns Ferry, Idaho. This was a particular honor that was unexpected but was accepted with the greatest humility. The undying tenets of Freemasonry continue to be an ever growing influence on his conduct inside and outside of the Lodge; the continuance of Friendship and Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth together with the ancient Fraternity's Principles: Temperance, Fortitude, Prudence and Justice. Benjamin strives to assist others to see the truth of his noble Craft, thereby enabling them to understand the service that Freemasonry has gifted to Mankind since time in memorial. Like other institutions or creeds, Freemasonry has been dealt many unkind and unreasonable persecutions, often brought on by ignorance or fear. Generations before the Enlightenment in Europe, Freemasons fought hard on behalf of the common folk, encouraging literacy, freedom of worship, education, due-process, the right to assemble and the right of representation. These attacks have led to unjust inquisitions, imprisonments and murder. Undeterred however, Freemasonry has survived intact. Through their assistance, they brought the people the American and French Revolutions, and the American Constitution and Bill of Rights. Additionally, many prominent patriotic Masons have led their people to independence, including Simon Bolivar and George Washington. Many of the countries of South America and the Caribbean fought for their independence from the yoke of European expansionism, while being led by good Brothers of the Craft. The power of Freemasonry was even known and feared by Adolf Hitler, who, in the 1930s, worked to suppress and expel all of the German Lodges. OLD NEWS: 10/10/2004 I have returned safely from my 2-week scouting tour of Jordan and the Sinai Peninsula. As this was a true adventure for me and it was definitely a photographic success in my book, I was sad to hear on Thursday, of the terrorist attacks launched against Israeli tourists in Taba & Nuweiba (located in Sinai). I saw Taba last week while I was boating from Aqaba, Jordan to the port of Nuweiba. While hotel scouting through the area, I got to see the camping grounds situated near the Red Sea, which would be attacked with car bombs later that week. (info on attacks) These new attacks in the Sinai come during a time of already reduced Israeli tourism which has been painfully felt in the previous months by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism. Surely, this is yet another powerful blow to their hopes of increasing tourism in the region. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. May G-d bless and watch over them.
